Memory Verses and Reflection Questions

Monday, 9/6

Memory Verse

Heb  9:27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Reflection Questions

Hebrews 9:7,22

  • Reflect on the phrase “and never without blood.”  What is the significance of blood being shed in the context of forgiveness?
  • What message would have been unmistakably communicated to people through the sacrificial system?

Tuesday, 9/7

Memory Verse

Heb 10:24-254 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Reflection Questions

Hebrews 10:26-31

  • Given the seriousness of this message and the fact that this is addressed to believers, what should my attitude be towards vigilance against sin?
  • What are some examples of people who “[treat] as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them” and “[insulting] the Spirit of grace?

Wednesday, 9/8

Memory Verse

Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Reflection Questions

Hebrews 11:4-11

  • List out the qualities of all those commended in this chapter as being paragons of faith.  What is the overarching characteristic of these people?
  • Am I living a life of faith?

Thursday, 9/9

Memory Verse

Heb 12: 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Reflection Questions

Hebrews 12:14-17

  • What are the things that Christians are actively called to do as well as not do?
  • How do people allow “bitter root[s] to grow up to cause trouble and defile many?”  How does this lead to “[missing] the grace of God?”
