Memory Verses and Reflection Questions

MONDAY, 9/27

Memory Verse

1 Peter 3:15

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect

Reflection Questions

1 Peter 3:13-15

  • What do people fear?
  • What reason does a Christian have for not fearing what people fear?
  • Is there some situation in my life right now in which I need to “set apart Christ as Lord” by choosing to “suffer to do what is right” even though I am frightened?
  • What are some ways that I can prepare myself to give a reason for my faith?

Memory Verse

1 Peter 4:7-8

The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Reflection Questions

1 Peter 4:2-6

  • What do the sins listed in v. 3 have in common?
  • Do I share the sentiment Apostle Peter expresses in v. 3 towards this kind of life?  What view of my life is expressed in the phrase “you have spent enough time”?  In what way am I living “for the will of God” (vs.2)?
  • Reflect on the description of the world’s response to the believer’s stance against living in dissipation.  Why would there be such a hostile response?

Memory Verse

1 Peter 5:8-9

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Reflection Questions

1 Peter 5:5-7

  • Peter calls for humility on the part of those who lead and those who are led.  In what ways do I need to exercise humility towards those God has placed in my life?
  • How does my inability to trust God’s mighty hand, and his “due time” lead to anxiety, and attempts to lift myself up?  What does it mean to humble myself under God’s mighty hand?

1 Peter 5:8-9

  • What can I learn about the nature of spiritual battles from the exhortations that Apostle Peter gives in v8 and v9?  How can I concretely apply each of these exhortations to defend myself against the devil?

Memory Verse

2 Peter 1:3

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

Reflection Questions

2 Peter 1:3-4

  • Notice the description in this text of the things given to me by God.
  • What would it mean for me to respond properly to these gifts?
