Memory Verses and Reflection Questions

MONDAY, 10/18

Memory Verse

3 John 1:11

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

Reflection Questions

3 John 1:1-12

  • Reflect on the description of Diotrephes as someone “who loves to be first,” and the conduct that flowed from this.  Why does it make sense that such a drive would damage relationships, and be hostile to truth?  In what ways can I relate to this in my life?

TUESDAY, 10/19

Memory Verse

Jude 1:24-25

To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Reflection Questions

Jude 1

  • Reflect on the exhortation to “contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.”  What drove these false teachers Jude warns against  (vss. 4, 8, 10, 16, 18-19)?  What can I do to ensure that I am contending for the faith that was “once for all entrusted to the saints?”

Memory Verse

Revelation 1:3

Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

Reflection Questions

Revelation 1

  • Who is Jesus according to this chapter?
  • Reflect on who Jesus is in light of how I am described in vss.5b-6.

Memory Verse

Revelation 2:5

Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

Reflection Questions

Revelation 2:2-7

  • What are the three things that Jesus tells the Ephesians, who lost their “first love,” to do?
  • What do I remember of the “heights” of my devotion to Jesus? What are the things I did at first that I need to repeat again and again to remain in that “first love”?
